Katharina Schüller

In the first EMOS webinar, Katharina Schüller presented a general framework of Data Literacy and discussed its concept, applications and the associated five principles. Participants could develop an understanding of what the Data Value Cycle and Data Literacy are, and why Data Literacy is important.

 

Katharina Schüller (* 3 April 1977 in Rosenheim) is a German entrepreneur, non-fiction author and board member of the German Statistical Society. She is the managing director of the Munich-based company STAT-UP, which specialises in data strategy and data analysis and the teaching of data literacy and data ethics.

In 2020, she initiated the development of a Data Literacy Charter under the sponsorship of the Stifterverband, which was signed by more than 100 representatives from business, politics and academia. In 2021, the IEEE Standards Association appointed her to lead an international working group to develop a global standard for Data & AI Literacy.

Schüller was also involved in the development of the app Stadt, Land, DatenFluss by the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers. The app was created to strengthen the data literacy of citizens by explaining how new data-based technologies work in a playful way.
